Hi, I’m Chris Baptist, the owner of Kip McGrath Darlington, where I’ve been passionately helping students succeed in their studies since 2015. With over nine years in business, I’m dedicated to providing top-quality tutoring that supports each student’s unique needs.
My journey here has been shaped by a varied and fulfilling career, which began when I graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering.
After a successful early career, I transitioned into teaching—a field I found incredibly rewarding. I trained as a qualified teacher through Carmel School and went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Pedagogy. I spent several years teaching mathematics at Hummersknott School and Language College, helping students unlock their potential.
Before teaching, I served as a Police Officer with Northumbria Police for over a decade. This experience taught me invaluable lessons about community engagement, discipline, and leadership. The decision to shift from policing to education wasn’t an easy one, but my passion for helping young people flourish drove the change. Now, I bring all these experiences into my role as an educator and business owner.
At Kip McGrath Darlington, we focus on delivering tailored tutoring that meets each student’s individual needs, from catching up in core subjects to excelling in their studies. My team’s commitment to excellence and personalised education was recognised when we proudly won the UK Franchisee of the Year award. This accolade reflects not only the success of our students but also our dedication to making a positive impact through education.
I’m also involved in providing alternative education through partnerships with the local authority, helping students who are disengaged from traditional schooling.
